About this recipe: A fabulous muffin recipe perfect for all those who love the combination of chocolate and orange. Use a good quality plain chocolate and fresh orange juice, if possible.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 12

    • 250g plain flour
    • 110g plain chocolate, grated
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 90g butter or margarine, softened
    • 150g caster sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest
    • 60ml orange juice
    • 110ml buttermilk

    Method
    Prep:25min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:45min

    1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Lightly grease a 12 cup muffin tin, or line with paper cases.
    2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, plain chocolate, baking powder, bicarb and salt.
    3. In a separate medium bowl, cream together margarine and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the orange zest, orange juice and buttermilk. Pour into the flour mixture, and mix just until evenly moist. Spoon mixture into prepared muffin tin.
    4. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of a muffin comes out clean. Let muffins cool in the tin on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before removing from the tin.

I love this recipe but I tweaked it a little by using Terrys Chocolate Orange instead of the plain chocolate  -  23 Mar 2016

it's yummy! i substituted the chocolate with chocolate chips. i couldn't find buttermilk so plain yogurt was the next best alternative. however, i couldn't taste the orange, i could smell the orange from the oven but it was lost in my mouth. therefore, i plan to add orange extract the next time. awesome muffins. i baked it for valentines and my frens loved it. thanks!  -  18 Feb 2007  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
