    Serves: 4 

    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 3 carrots, chopped
    • 3 potatoes, chopped
    • 1 parsnip, chopped
    • 1 turnip, chopped
    • 50g (2 oz) uncooked white rice
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 600ml (1 pint) water

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

    1. In a large pot over medium high heat, combine all ingredients. Boil until vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes, adding more water if necessary.

    Very easy and quick to whip up when I'm feeling hungry and there's not much to eat in the house. Very tasty, and my meat-eating mother even asked for a bowl. Definitely going to make this again!  -  01 May 2011


    Used different ingredients. Used mixed spices instead of Cumin, and omitted the swede. Also used a litre of water rather than 600ml, and it's certainly not watery. Absolutely gorgeous, filling, and healthy!  -  01 May 2011
