    About this recipe: This recipe has very little fat and no eggs. It's still tasty and stops my craving for chocolate! Try it toasted, too. For me it's a 5 star recipe! When cool wrap in cling film. I don't put it in the fridge because it goes dry. Lasts up to a week.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 8 

    • 170g (6oz) self-raising flour
    • 2 tablespoons Horlicks® malt beverage mix
    • 85g (3oz) sultanas or mixed fruit
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 150ml skimmed milk

    Method
    Prep:5min  ›  Cook:50min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Lightly grease a loaf tin.
    2. Put everything into a mixing bowl and beat well. Pour into greased loaf tin.
    3. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes. Allow to cool.

    This is nice, but it doesn't have a very strong flavour. I'd use a bit more liquid, too - the mixture as in the recipe is very thick. - 29 Sep 2011

    I made this but didn't have golden syrup so I used half treacle and half sweetener to cut down on sugar and only had a little dried cranberries so used them and substituted some of the milk with an egg but it turned out delicious! I've since made it even without the fruit and its still great! - 20 Mar 2012
