We have fun making these every year. There are loads of different ways you can present these biscuits - press them into cookie moulds, spread the mixture into a baking tray and cut up as fingers, or even dip one half in chocolate.

560g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
Whisk the butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg, milk and vanilla and mix well. Mix the flour with the baking powder and gradually add to the mixture until smooth.
Roll out the mixture and cut with Christmas biscuit cutters - then transfer onto a baking tray.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from the baking tray and cool on a rack.
