Easy layered dessert

    Cooked apples, crunchy biscuit crumbs, toffee sauce and whipped cream are layered in a glass for an easy dessert or sweet snack.

    Serves: 5 

    • 250ml double cream
    • a drop vanilla extract (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
    • 300g apple compote or chunky apple sauce
    • 15 digestives or gingernuts, crushed
    • 7 tablespoons toffee sauce or ready made caramel

    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Ready in:25min 

    1. Whip the cream until stiff, add the vanilla and sugar (if using).
    2. Spoon some biscuit crumbs in to the bottom of each glass or serving dish. Top with a layer of whipped cream then a layer of apple, and finish with the toffee sauce.
    3. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Serve chilled. with some extra crushed biscuits on top.

    I got all excited about this dish - but following the recipe didnt work as SINGLE cream does not thicken enough. Will try again with DOUBLE cream :-)  -  20 Sep 2011


    This dessert was soo good! I read the other comment on here about using double cream and I did; and it seemed to do the trick! All the different textures and flavours really compliment each other. Next time though I will add just a touch more vanilla extract  -  08 Feb 2012


    Made my compote and toffee sauce, so it was moist. Also useddouble cream instead of the single and whipped it witha tiny bit of icing sugar and vanilla seeds. Loved it!  -  12 Oct 2015
