Spicy Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry

About this recipe: Garlic, dried red chillies and chilli paste add some spice to chicken and broccoli.


Serves: 4 

  • 275g (10 oz) broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 skinless, boneless chicken breast fillets - cut into strips
  • 1/2 bunch spring onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chilli paste
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried crushed chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons chicken stock

  1. Place broccoli in a steamer over boiling water, and cover. Cook until tender but still firm, about 5 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil in a frying pan or wok over medium heat, and stir-fry the chicken, spring onions and garlic until the chicken is no longer pink and juices run clear.
  3. Stir the hoisin sauce, chilli paste and soy sauce into the frying pan. Season with ginger, chillies, salt and black pepper. Stir in the chicken stock and simmer about 2 minutes. Mix in the steamed broccoli until coated with the sauce mixture.

Something else. I served it with salad made of shredded cabbage, carrot and lettuce and vinegar to help those who can't easily cope with the chilli... - 05 Sep 2010


Altered ingredient amounts. Nice and spicy, but I cooked the broccoli too long as was mushy not crisp like I like it so I will make sure to toss the broccoli in at the last minute next time not few mins before expecting husband home as he was late Perfect with rice. - 07 Sep 2010
