About this recipe: These sticks are best served with coffee as an ‘appetiser’ for your breakfast – why shouldn’t you have an appetiser for breakfast? I enjoy dipping my Cinnamon Bread Sticks into black coffee.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 18 sticks

    • 150g (6oz) unsalted butter
    • 50g (2oz) icing sugar
    • 50g (2oz) demerara sugar
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 6 slices thin white bread, crusts removed and cut into 3 sticks like 'soldiers'
    • OR
    • 4 thick slices 2 cm (¾ inch) from an un-sliced loaf, cut into sticks 2cm thick

    Method
    Prep:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min

    1. Preheat the oven to 200ºC, 400ºF, Gas Mark 6.
    2. Melt the butter and lightly soak each side of the bread sticks.
    3. Mix the sugars and cinnamon together and dip the sticks in the mixture on each side and the ends. Lay the sticks on a baking sheet on baking parchment and bake in the oven for about 8 minutes then remove from the oven, turn the sticks over by one side, return to the oven for another 5 minutes or until golden brown. Allow them to cool a little and crisp up.

Just made this for my family (followed the recipe to the letter) it was an easy recipe to follow and it sounded lovely but in reality it was way to rich it was like eating very sweet fryed bread, they turned out crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle wich was nice but the bread soaked up to much butter even though I just dipped it in the butter. It may be worth just brushing the bread with the melted butter instead? - 15 Feb 2015
