About this recipe: Tava is a popular dish in Turkey. Serve with warm pitta or flat bread.

Serves: 4 

  • 1kg (2 1/4 lbs) diced stewing steak
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 green chilli, seeded and diced (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed chillies

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4.
  2. Place the beef into a casserole or baking dish. Mix in the red onion, green pepper, tomato and fresh and dried chillies.
  3. Cook uncovered for 30 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the meat is tender. Serve hot with flatbread, or wrapped in a pitta.
