    About this recipe: A very simple beef casserole recipe, cooked in a slow oven or in a slow cooker. Delicious with buttered crusty bread.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 8 

    • 6 or 7 white potatoes
    • 3 medium carrots
    • 2 onions
    • 2 leeks
    • 6 mushrooms
    • 600g beef braising steak
    • 600ml (1 pint) gravy

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:5hr  ›  Ready in:5hr10min 

    1. Preheat the oven to 150 C / Gas 2.
    2. Wash and peel the potatoes and carrots, chop the potatoes into quarters, same with the onions and slice the carrots. Wash and slice the leeks and mushrooms, and cut the braising steak into cubes.
    3. Prepare the gravy and put everything into a casserole dish. Mix together well.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven, or use a slow cooker, for around 5 hours, stirring every hour or two.

    Really simple to make ( which is essential for me as a non cook! ) but delicious, and was enjoyed by all the family. The did add some thyme and bay leaves to give it more flavour though - 20 Nov 2011

    my first casserole I've made, added red wine to the gravy, used shallots instead of onions and used button chestnut mushrooms and it was SOOOO good! Me and my husband finished the lot between us in one go - 14 Mar 2014
