Marion's special mac-cheese

    Cheap, simple, and tasty. A little bit of mustard in the cheese sauce adds a certain zing to a very easy recipe.

    • 85g macaroni
    • 30g butter
    • 30g plain flour
    • 275ml milk or water or a mixture
    • 55g to 85g grated cheese
    • 1/2 teaspoon mustard
    • salt and pepper
    • 30g grated cheese for topping

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Boil macaroni as per instructions on packet, drain and put aside.
    3. For cheese sauce, put the butter, flour and milk in a pan. Stir constantly over gentle heat until boiling. Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes. Add the 55g to 85g grated cheese and mustard. Season with salt and pepper.
    4. Add cooked macaroni to pan. Put mixture into baking dish, sprinkle with remaining 30g cheese.
    5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.


    Add sliced tomatoes before baking, sprinkle with paprika.
