Ginger snaps

    Be careful, because these little ginger biscuits are moreish! Perfect for dipping in a cup of tea :)

    Makes: 24 biscuits

    • 220g dark brown soft sugar
    • 170g butter or margarine
    • 4 tablespoons treacle
    • 1 egg
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
    • 280g plain flour
    • Sugar for dipping

    1. Cream sugar and butter together, then stir in treacle. Add in egg and spices. Mix well.
    2. Add in dry ingredients bit by bit until a dough is formed.
    3. Chill in fridge for about 1 hour.
    4. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    5. Shape dough into balls, roll in sugar and press down onto well greased and floured baking tray.
    6. Bake until just set, about 12 minutes.


    This recipe may make more than 24 biscuits, so feel free to change the cooking time according to the size of the buscuit.

    Unsure what happened here as I followed your recipe to the letter but I had to add more flour as it was so in all made over 70 snaps/stars/gingerbread-men/christmas trees with it...they taste absolutely lovely and I am including a picture at the top for you...i made small stars big stars,small snaps large please do get back to me as I had sooo much and I find it hard to believe you only said you get 24 out of this,could you recheck it for me I said at the top I have included some pictures of the vast amount which I made...they taste divine though,thank you very much the only thing I did not have was the dark brown soft sugar so I used the light brown soft 19th january 2015 i tried this recipe agaain and you need 400grams plain flour otherwise it is far too sticky to do anything with but it is great then,have got some more pictures at the top to show you  -  21 Dec 2014
