Shirley's green tomato chutney

    2 hours 30 min

This is a very tangy and moreish chutney. It has a hint of fresh ginger and apple, once tried you will want more. All my friends and family love it.

    1. First put vinegar and sugar in a bowl and dissolve. It's best left overnight.
    2. Wash all tomatoes and apples and cut up into big pieces.
    3. Mince or (process to look like minced) all ingredients together except vinegar and sugar. Put all in very large saucepan.
    4. Bring to the boil then turn heat down to just bubbling. Simmer for 1hour 15 minutes, stirring from time to time.
    5. Now add vinegar and sugar which is dissolved. Boil for 15 minutes, then cool and and bottle (or bag to freeze). Enjoy!

    Freezing tip

Store in freezer bags to save jars. Make sure this is cold before freezing. Just thaw and put in jar when you need to eat.

Oops can I rename mine caramalised green tomato chutney?!! Probably best not to simmer with a lid on?  -  06 Oct 2012

very pleasant chutney that will compliment a lot of cheeses. Love the tip about the freezer. I filled 4 jars and the remainder has been put into 2 ice cube trays inside freezer bags. In theory I only need to defrost the portions I need.  -  09 Sep 2015
