    15 min

I wanted to make my own pourable homemade chocolate custard to serve with chocolate bread pudding. It was delicious! I might try different flavours of chocolate next chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, etc!

    Makes: 375 ml

    • 250ml milk
    • 3 egg yolks
    • 1 (100g) bar dark chocolate, broken up
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cornflour

    Prep:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min

    1. Heat the milk in a pot until it just begins to bubble. Remove from the heat, add the chocolate pieces and stir a few times as the chocolate melts.
    2. Beat or whisk the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl for 2 or 3 minutes.
    3. In a small bowl, mix a teaspoon of cornflour with a few tablespoons of the warm chocolate milk and stir until it's a smooth paste (no lumps). Add to the egg mixture and mix well.
    4. Add the egg mixture to the warm milk in the pan and whisk over a very low heat until it has thickened slightly. Pour into a jug for serving.

This works really well with rice milk for a dairy free alternative. I poured mine over frozen raspberries and set them in the fridge.  -  03 Nov 2012

never made custard from scratch before. Very easy and was yummy. Found it a little sugary. I made it with chocolate brownies from this site  -  10 Oct 2012
