About this recipe: This deliciously nutty chocolate icing is perfect for the tops of fairy cakes. The quantities aren't exact so experiment until you get the right consistency and flavour for you.

Makes: 4 tablespoons

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Nutella®
  • 1 tablespoon icing sugar
  • water as needed to bind
  • 1 tablespoon Bournville® cocoa powder

Prep:5min  ›  Extra time:10min setting  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. Add the icing sugar and Nutella to a medium sized bowl and stir with a spoon.
  2. Add some water to stop the Nutella sticking.
  3. Add the Bournville bit by bit, tasting every time until you get the right sweetness.
  4. Ice the cakes or whatever you're making and leave to set.


These amounts are just rough. I did it by eye and anyone with icing experience will be able to do that, too. If you find it too sweet, add a bit more Bournville; if too dark, add some more Nutella and icing sugar.
