Slow cooker pork chops with caramelised onions and peas

    Tender pork chops cooked in the slow cooker with caramelised onions, peas and cider. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes.

    Serves: 2 

    • oil for shallow frying
    • 2 pork chops
    • 4 large onions, sliced into rings
    • 1 clove garlic, crushed
    • good pinch sugar
    • 200ml cider
    • seasoning
    • 4 tablespoons frozen petit pois
    • knob butter

    1. Turn the slow cooker onto low.
    2. In a frying pan heat some oil. Add the pork chops and brown on each side. Remove and place in the slow cooker.
    3. In the same pan, add the onions and cook slowly until slightly caramelised. Add the garlic and sugar and stir for a couple of minutes.
    4. Add the cider and bring to the boil.
    5. Pour the onion and cider mixture on top of the pork chops. Season well and cover.
    6. Thirty minutes before serving add the peas, mix well and cook for another 30 minutes.
    7. To serve, remove the pork chops and place onto a bed of mashed potato. Stir a knob of butter into the juices and pour over.

    Its nice to find a recipe for a slow cooker you can use for 1 or 2 people.I found this easy to do. My only advice would be: Don't drink the rest of the bottle of cider why you are preparing it lol  -  19 Nov 2011


    We loved it! I misread the instructions though and used Apple Cider Vinegar instead of Apple Cider! It was tangy and tasty!  -  13 Oct 2013


    I didn't tweaked the recipe, just increased the numbers as I have 5 q slow cooker. After 8 hours on low, 1.5h on keep warm meet was extremely dry. What went wrong?  -  03 Feb 2015
