Stir fry sauce

    Use this flavourful stir fry sauce for almost any Chinese-inspired stir fry you can imagine. This stir fry sauce is so easy, it'll surely become a midweek favourite.

    Makes: 275 ml stir fry sauce

    • 2 tablespoons cornflour
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red chillies, or to taste
    • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 120ml soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons dry sherry
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    • 2 dessertspoons grated root ginger
    • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

    1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Bring to the boil and boil for 2 minutes, until thickened.
    2. Add to your favourite stir fry just at the end of cooking. You can make this ahead of time and store in the fridge for 2 weeks, then use as needed.

    Tasty additions

    Try adding these tasty additions to your stir fry at the same time as adding your sauce: Sliced spring onion, sesame seeds, crushed peanuts or cashews. For a thicker and sweeter consistency, you can add up to 6 more tablespoons of golden syrup.

    delicious! I was in a hurry and used Lazy garlic and ginger and it was great. Had it with veggies and jasmine rice.  -  16 Jul 2012


    So versatile and simple to make, as well as incredibly delicious! Recommended! We used it with chicken and stir fry veg for starters, but I imagine it works a treat with lots more  -  29 Jan 2012


    The idea was good, but the amount of soy sauce made it sooo salty! Next time I won't add anywhere as much soy sauce and it should be lovely.  -  21 Nov 2015
