Family favourite beef chilli

    1 hour 10 min

Fairly simple to make. A family favourite. Serve with boiled rice. I usually don't cook this meal by measurements. So add as much of each ingredient as you would like. There is no need to be accurate with this meal. Enjoy!

    • 3 bay leaves
    • 2 onions, sliced
    • 2 green peppers, sliced
    • 3 celery sticks, chopped
    • 2 red chillies, chopped
    • 500g lean beef mince
    • Worcester sauce (optional)
    • 1 (400g) tin chopped tomatoes

    1. Heat olive oil in a large pan. Add garlic, chilli flakes (I usually add a tablespoon full but it depends on how spicy you would like it), and bay leaves. Stir for about a minute.
    2. Add the onions, peppers, celery and red chillies. Cook until onions turn a golden brown.
    3. Add the beef mince. When the mince is beginning to brown add a fair amount of Worcester sauce (optional).
    4. When the mince is completely browned, add the tin of chopped tomatoes, tomato purée and a fairly large amount of tomato ketchup. Cook for a further minute.
    5. Add the hot chilli powder. Add as much or as little as you'd like. I also add a few drops of Tabasco but this is optional.
    6. Add salt and pepper (more pepper than salt) and cook on low for 30-40 minutes.

Add as much or as little of each ingredient as you like. There are no need for measurements.

I love this recipe, I have made it several times. My husband and son think it's marvellous. It's great to have a basic recipe to adapt. I always add kidney beans. ☺☺☺☺  -  11 Nov 2015
