    About this recipe: This dish makes a tasty supper or lunch dish and can be prepared in advance up to the grilling stage. Serve with broccoli or green beans.

    Serves: 4 

    • 700g (25 oz) new potatoes, thickly sliced
    • 2 leeks, thickly sliced
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 200ml (7 fl oz) creme fraiche
    • 110g (4 oz) thin ham slices
    • 85g (3 oz) Cheddar cheese, grated
    • Salt and black pepper to taste

    1. Preheat the grill.
    2. Add the potatoes to a pan of boiling water and cook for 7-10 minutes until tender. Add the leeks for the last three minutes of cooking time.
    3. Meanwhile, crush the garlic and stir it into the creme fraiche.
    4. Drain the potatoes and leeks and season. Tip into a baking dish and tuck in the ham.
    5. Drop spoonfuls of garlic creme fraiche over the potatoes and then grate the cheese on top.
    6. Grill for 3 to 4 minutes until creme fraiche has melted into the potatoes and cheese is golden brown. Serve immediately.

    Make ahead

    Put the dish together and then bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 190 C / Gas 5 / Fan 170 C.
