Serves: 6

  • 3 tubs double cream
  • 2 (100g) bars milk chocolate or dark chocolate
  • 150g marshmallows
  • 50g butter
  • 60ml water
  • 2 small bananas, chopped
  • pre-made or shop bought brownies

Prep:40min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Extra time:5hr chilling  ›  Ready in:5hr50min

  1. For the mousse: Whip one tub of cream.
  2. In a small pan, melt 1 bar of chocolate, the marshmallows and the butter, with the 60ml water.
  3. When melted, fold into the whipped cream and chill for around 3 or 4 hours. (To save time, you could chill it in the freezer for less time)
  4. For the base: The base is a chocolate ganache with chopped banana. Melt the other bar of chocolate in a double boiler.
  5. Heat a tub of cream in a separate pan until just before boiling point. Fold into the melted chocolate and add the chopped up banana.
  6. Assembly: Put the ganache with banana at the bottom of a trifle dish. Layer chunks of brownie onto the ganache. Add the chocolate mousse.
  7. Whip the last tub of cream and pipe onto the top of the trifle. Done!

I use milk chocolate for this recipe, but it's simply down to personal preference. For a more grown-up tasting dessert, you can use dark!
