Sticky chilli beef stir fry

    This is something I created when I wanted an interesting stir fry and couldn't find a recipe I liked. Plus I'm on a mission to find edible food that's still gluten free. You can adjust the amount of chilli in it to make it as hot as you like. It needs some marinating but cooks in minutes.

    Serves: 2 

    • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons runny honey
    • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
    • 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
    • 500g thin cut steak, sliced into strips
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 500g mixed stir fry vegetables, sliced

    1. Mix together the soy sauce, honey, tomato puree and red chilli. Add the steak, cover and leave to marinate for at least 1 hour.
    2. Heat olive oil in a large wok on medium-high heat. Pour in the steak and marinade and cook while stirring for about 5 minutes.
    3. Add vegetables and cook for another 5-10 minutes while stirring, until the steak is cooked but the vegetables are still crunchy.


    You can leave the steak to marinate for up to 24 hours. The flavour will only improve.

    wasn't too bad, decent taste, just wasn't quite as sticky as i hoped it would be. Was real simple though and quick as anything  -  06 Mar 2013


    Superb! I've never known my husband to be so enthused about a dish before. Although the dish wasn't technically sticky, the honey & the fresh chilly, (including the seeds), really compliment one another. Might add a little fresh grated ginger next time in the marinade.  -  18 Feb 2016
