    About this recipe: My all time favourite main, my mum cooks this whenever I come home now. Simple, no hassle full flavour.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 carrots, chopped
    • 2 sticks celery, chopped
    • 1 handful button mushrooms, halved
    • 450g (1lb) stewing beef
    • gravy granules
    • 1 can ale (Guinness® works brilliantly)

    Method
    Prep:30min  ›  Cook:8hr  ›  Ready in:8hr30min 

    1. Place veg into slow cooker. Add beef to slow cooker.
    2. Make gravy to desired consistency by adding gravy granules to ale and making to a pint with boiling water. Add gravy to slow cooker.
    3. Cook in slow cooker for 6 to 8 hours. If gravy is a bit thin, add some more gravy granules.

    Serving suggestion

    Works great with any style of potato (especially mash). Any veg can be removed from the list, I only ever cook this recipe with onions, but I'm a fussy eater, also the thickness of the chopping is down to personal preference.

    Super easy, super yummy! Left out the mushrooms and served it over mashed potatoes and turnips. Even my 2 year old nephew loved it and couldn't get enough. - 04 Sep 2014
