Lumberjack pie

    This is a meat pie (Mater's recipe doesn't even specify what type of meat) spiced with cinnamon and sage; it is in fact the most delicious pie in existence.

    Makes: 1 pie

    • 700g ground meat
    • 1 small onion, minced
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
    • 240ml mashed potato
    • 1 double pie shortcrust pastry

    1. In a pot over medium heat--meat, onion, salt and pepper; cook 'til meat is done. Save the drippings.
    2. Stir in cinnamon and sage. Mix in mashed potato and enough of the drippings 'til like mincemeat. Chill a quarter of an hour.
    3. Preheat the oven to 230 C / Gas 8.
    4. Put pastry in pan, thereupon filling, cover in top pastry, crimp and slash.
    5. Bake 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 180 C / Gas 4. Bake 15-20 minutes.
