Teresa's apple pie "moonshine"

    This is a wonderful recipe I found online and started tinkering with, made a change here and there to get the finished product. I've made it for several parties, and it's always a hit. It makes about 2 1/2 gallons so is wonderful to gift once the weather gets chilly! You can drink it hot or cold, but, watch out - it's pretty strong!

    Makes: 3 approximate gallons

    • 3.8L spiced apple cider
    • 3.8L apple juice
    • 225g caster sugar
    • 200g light soft brown sugar
    • 8-10 cinnamon sticks
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • 1.75L pure grain alcohol (190 proof)

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:1hr  ›  Extra time:2hr cooling  ›  Ready in:3hr10min 

    1. Place all ingredients except alcohol, in a large pot and heat to boil, stiring to dissolve all sugar. Once boiling, reduce heat and let simmer for 1 hour.
    2. Let cool to room temperature and add alcohol. Stir well.
    3. Pour into sterilized self sealing canning jars and add one cinnamon stick to each jar. Enjoy! these jars will keep in a cool dark area for up to 6 months.

    Serving suggestion

    If you would like it warm, put a cup in the microwave for a minute to heat so the alcohol doesn't burn off. This would be great for any Autmun or Winter celebrations.
