Makes: 10 Gingerbread men minimum

  • 375g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 110g soft butter
  • 175g soft brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons golden syrup
  • water
  • icing sugar
  • sweets to decorate

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Extra time:15min cooling  ›  Ready in:1hr10min

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas 5. Grease an oven tray. This is to make sure the mixture does not get stuck when baking.
  2. Take the mixing bowl and stir together the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ground ginger.
  3. Take the butter and add to the flour mixture making it into a crumble.
  4. Add the soft brown sugar, mixing until the sugar disappears.
  5. Take another bow; stir together the egg and golden syrup. Add this to the flour crumble and mix till the liquid and the flour are no longer separate.
  6. Knead the ingredients for about 30 seconds, turning them into thick dough.
  7. Roll out the dough till it’s about 3-4mm thick.
  8. Take your gingerbread cutter and make the gingerbread men, making sure you use all of the dough. Place the gingerbread men onto the baking tray.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for around 12-14 minutes, checking on them every so often. Once they’re done they should be a little bit golden. Leave to cool.

great recipe to work with and the results were . I ended up adding more ginger as it wasn't gingery enough for and my brood along with a teaspoon of cinnamon. All I can say is they were yummmm oh and I ended with 18 rather than 12 and to those who want to this please do but be warned only place 4 - 6 gingerbread men on a baking sheet/ tray as they do grow in size. Thanks for sharing a Fab recipe - 09 Sep 2012
