Breaded onion rings

    This is a recipe I brought back from the United States. I make my own breadcrumbs from dry bread using a food processor.

    Serves: 4 

    • oil for frying
    • 100g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 egg
    • 200ml milk
    • 75g dried breadcrumbs
    • 1 large onion, sliced and rings separated
    • salt and pepper to taste

    1. Preheat oil to 180 degrees C in a deep fryer or deep frying pan.
    2. Whisk the flour and salt together and place on a plate. Whisk together the egg and milk in a shallow bowl. Place the breadcrumbs on a second plate.
    3. Dip each onion ring first into the flour to coat, then in the egg mixture, and finally dip in the breadcrumbs to coat.
    4. Fry the onions in the preheated oil until golden, about 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and serve hot.

    lovely recipe, soooo much nicer than bought ones.... second time i made them, i added some garlic powder to the breadcrumbs.... delish  -  04 Jan 2013
