Grandma V's apple pie

    A delicious recipe for apple pie. Bramley is a tart cooking apple that sweetens and becomes very tender and fluffy when cooked.

    Makes: 1 pie

    • 400g plain flour
    • 200g butter
    • 2 tablespoons water, or as needed
    • 1 packet Bramley cooking apples
    • 2 teaspoons sugar, or to taste

    1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
    2. To make the pastry, mix together the flour, butter and water until doughy. Use rolling pin to flatten. Make sure you have enough pastry to make 2 large circles, one for the base and one for the top.
    3. Peel apples and cut into small chunks. Put into pan with boiling hot water and wait. Boil until it's like apple sauce in a Sunday roast. While it's boiling, add teaspoons of sugar to your taste.
    4. While apples are boiling, put pastry base in pie tin. Cover with the apple filling, then put the pastry lid over the apples.
    5. Cook pie in oven until golden, about 30 minutes. Leave to cool for 15 minutes.


    Use shop-bought pastry to save time.

    Serving suggestion

    Add ice cream or whipped cream to your plate for an even better taste!
