About this recipe: Fresh mussels bought at the market in the morning and cooked for lunch, there is nothing better! I had a bit of pineau des Charentes aperitif (made with grape juice and eau de vie) and it was really delicious. Here's my recipe! Note: Pineau des Charentes aperitif is available online or through speciality shops.


Serves: 4 

  • 1kg mussels
  • 100ml pineau des Charentes aperitif
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 1 bouquet garni

Prep:5min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Ready in:10min 

  1. Clean the mussels and place in a large saucepan over low heat with the pineau, shallot and bouquet garni.
  2. Simmer for about 5 minutes or until mussels have opened. Remove bouquet garni and serve with the cooking juices, with plenty of fresh bread for mopping up!
