Purple sprouting broccoli with garlic and sesame seeds

    A good side dish for fish or meat. Quick to prepare and cook - ideal for the midweek evening meal or an impressive dinner party.

    Serves: 4 

    • 350g purple sprouting broccoli
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil or vegetable oil, or as needed
    • 2 to 3 cloves garlic cloves, peeled and chopped
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

    1. Cut woody ends and old leaves from broccoli.
    2. Blanch broccoli by plunging into a pan of boiling water, cover and reduce heat - boil for 2 minutes then drain and run under cold water, set aside.
    3. Heat oil in a wok or a frying pan, when oil has heated - add broccoli and garlic then cook for a few minutes - stirring frequently until broccoli is crispy around the edges. Season with salt and pepper.
    4. Serve with sesame seeds sprinkled over the top.
