Butter vanilla aroma gives these German Christmas biscuits their special flavour. You can find the aroma in online stores.

125g butter, softened
1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
50g icing sugar
60g plain flour
3 drops butter vanilla aroma (can be found online)
1 to 2 tablespoons ice cold water

In a bowl beat butter und vanilla seeds till creamy. In another bowl mix flour, icing sugar and cornflour. Mix the butter vanilla aroma 1 to 2 tablespoons ice cold water, then add all ingredients together and stir well to combine. The mixture will be very sticky. Place it in a container with a lid and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 175 C / Gas 4. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Shape the mixture into 30 equally sized balls and place them on the baking tray with ample distance between them.
Press flat using a the tines of a fork dipped in flour.
Bake in the preheated oven till lightly colored, about 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer from the baking tray to a wire rack at once. Let cool on a cake rack and dust with icing sugar.
