About this recipe: You'll be shocked at how easy it is to make this classic French apple tart. Use calvados if possible, for the most authentic flavour.


Serves: 8 

  • 1 (23cm) shortcrust pastry case
  • 1kg apples - cored, peeled and sliced
  • 2 eggs
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 75g ground almonds
  • 200g crème fraîche
  • 30ml Calvados® or brandy

Prep:20min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Preheat oven to 220 C / Gas 7. Line pastry case with apple slices.
  2. In a medium bowl beat eggs with sugar, almonds, crème fraîche and brandy; pour blended mixture over apples.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Enjoy with a glass of brandy, warm and cosy!
