Tomato and cucumber raita

    A tasty accompaniment to Indian curries or a cool starter with naan bread. Yoghurt, tomatoes and cucumber seasoned with cumin, salt and fresh coriander.

    Serves: 3 

    • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 375g natural yoghurt
    • 1/2 cucumber, seeds removed and diced
    • 1 tomato, diced
    • salt, to taste
    • a few sprigs of fresh coriander

    1. Toast cumin seeds in a frying pan over low heat. Once they're toasted, crush them into a powder.
    2. In a medium bowl, stir yoghurt to remove lumps, until smooth. Add cucumber and tomato and mix, then stir in cumin and season with salt to taste. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve.


    The raita is perfect with a pulao or paratha, or as part of a family style thali.
