Chocolate toffee slices

    These delicious treats are simple to make and are great as a snack or as a dessert, especially when served with ice cream.

    Makes: 12 Slices

    • For the shortbread
    • 200g margarine
    • 120g caster sugar
    • 300g plain flour
    • For the topping
    • 150g margarine
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 1 (400g) tin condensed milk
    • 100g plain chocolate, melted

    Prep:30min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Extra time:15min cooling  ›  Ready in:1hr 

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Cream the 200g margarine, add the 120g caster sugar, and then gradually stir in the flour.
    3. Press into 25x36cm tin and bake in the oven until lightly golden, about 12 minutes.
    4. Melt the 150g margarine with the 100g caster sugar in a saucepan. Add the condensed milk and bring to the boil over a low heat, stirring all the time. Boil for 2-3 minutes.
    5. Spread over the shortbread. Cover with melted chocolate when cooled. Cut into slices and serve.

    I made the Shortbread, today - It wasn't as sweet as I was expecting, but for a first attempt I was pleased.  -  20 May 2017


    I made this and it was gorgeous. I did tweak the recipie a bit by adding vanilla. My best friends loved it they were gutted i hadn't taken any more with me  -  15 Feb 2016
