Puff pastry apple strudel

    A really easy version of apple strudel! Just defrost some shop bought puff pastry and wrap it around the filling.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1 (250g) sheet frozen puff pastry
    • 500g apples - peeled, cored and cubed
    • 80g raisins
    • 150g caster sugar
    • 40g chopped walnuts
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 1 egg, lightly beaten

    1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6.
    2. Defrost the pastry for about 30 minutes.
    3. In a bowl, combine the apples with raisins, sugar, chopped nuts and cinnamon.
    4. Place the pastry on a lightly floured work surface. Sprinkle with flour and roll out slightly then mark into 3 equal sections. Spoon the filling into the central section then fold over with the section on the right then fold over the section on the left (like a letter).
    5. Lay out the dough, sprinkle with flour and roll out lightly. Mark three equal sections. Spoon the filling into the central section. Make shallow diagonal cuts in the top layer then brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar. Transfer to a lightly greased baking tray.
    6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and the pastry has risen. Remove from the oven and serve warm, or allow to cool before enjoying.

    this is so easy and so good . I first made it with pears off my tree and I didn't know what castor sugar was so I used brown sugar. oh yea that works I've made it now 3 times and everyone likes it a lot and has asked for the recipe.  -  04 Sep 2017
