Makarony po-flotsky (Russian pasta with beef mince)

    In Russia this simple pasta dish with meat but without the usual tomato sauce is known as 'Navy-style pasta' because is it so simple and nourishing.

    Serves: 4 

    • 250g macaroni, vermicelli or angel hair pasta
    • 1 large onion, minced
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 400g beef mince
    • salt and pepper to taste

    1. Cook vermicelli or pasta for 2 minutes al dente according to package instructions.
    2. Fry onion in butter in a frying pan on medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
    3. Add the mince and cook on high heat for a few minutes, mixing well and breaking up lumps with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.
    4. Add cooked pasta and mix well. Cook for a few more minutes to brown the spaghetti a bit, adding a little more butter as needed.
