This football cake is perfect for a kid's birthday cake or to enjoy after winning a match! Use your favourite cake recipe for the appropriate size of your football cake mould. You can also use a cake mix if you're in a rush!
Prepare the cake according to the recipe instructions, using a football cake tin. Let cool completely before decorating.
Meanwhile, prepare the buttercream and chocolate icing. Add a few drops of blue food colouring to the chocolate icing to make it darker.
Spread the cooled cake with a thin layer of vanilla buttercream. Place in the fridge and chill for 1 hour till the icing is firm.
Add a second layer of vanilla buttercream to the cake. Outline the pentagons of a football with a wooden skewer. First trace a large pentagon in the centre on top, then work out from the centre.
Use the tube of black decorating icing to trace the outlines of the pentagons.
Attach a large tip to a pastry bag, fill with the chocolate icing and fill in the black pentagons. Use a palette knife to smooth out the icing. (Work according to the photo; the centre pentagon should be black, with a row of white pentagons surrounding it.)
Place the desiccated coconut in a plastic bag. Add the green food colouring and shake well. Sprinkle the green coconut around the cake for the pitch.
