About this recipe: I learnt this at school and use it now years after I've left. All round lovely meal. Nice change from the usual macaroni cheese.

  • 1 pinch salt (to add to the sauce)
  • 50g margarine
  • 100g mature Cheddar cheese

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Cook bacon under grill. Cool, then chop.
  3. Cook pasta (follow instructions on the packet).
  4. For the sauce: Put milk into a separate saucepan, add salt, flour and margarine and cook over medium heat till thickened.
  5. Take pan off the hob and add the cheese (leaving some to put on the top before it goes into the grill), then add the bacon and the cooked pasta.

This is a great base for developing your own cheesy bacon pasta sauce - 07 Nov 2012

this is a brilliant base recipe for a cheese sauce I added garlic and mustard to give it more flavour, this sauce can be used for anything with a cheese sauce. I have never made a cheese sauce before and didn't realise how easy it is to make thanks to this recipe I will never buy a packet mix again :-) - 21 Jan 2015
