Healthy spaghetti Bolognese

    Create this classic with no use of pre-made sauces. I created this when on weight watchers and found creating my own sauce created both loads of flavour and fewer calories and the mushrooms really make it more filling without high fat or calorie intake. It's also super easy.

    Serves: 4 

    • 400g lean beef mince
    • 500g mushrooms, chopped
    • 1 clove garlic, crushed
    • 1 large onion, chopped
    • 1 large tomato, chopped
    • 500g passata
    • 2 tablespoons Italian mixed herbs
    • 400g spaghetti

    1. Brown together the mince, mushrooms, garlic and onions. Once browned, add the tomatoes and cook for 1 minute, then add the passata and herbs. Leave to simmer for 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    2. Cook pasta according to packet instructions. Drain and serve with Bolognese sauce.


    If you have a slow cooker you can also throw the ingredients for the meat mix in there and then just cook spaghetti later that day good for coming home after a busy day if you have time to prep the night before.
