This Italian recipe is a healthy, unique and easy way to prepare fresh tuna steaks. The sauce is easy to make and full of flavour.

4 (200g) fresh tuna steaks
2 onions, thickly sliced
salt and pepper to taste
30g fresh mint
30g fresh basil
juice of 1 lemon
extra virgin olive oil

For the green sauce: Using a mortar and pestle, grind the mint and basil leaves and add some olive oil and the lemon juice. Continue grinding until you get a thick but pourable sauce. Set aside till serving.
Boil the onion slices in a little water to make them softer. Drain, then brown them on both sides in a little olive oil.
Wash the tuna steaks well and dry them using kitchen roll.
Heat a frying pan with some olive oil. When the oil is hot but not smoking, add the tuna steaks. Brown the tuna on both sides for about 4 to 5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the tuna.
Place the onion slices on a serving dish, put the tuna on top of the bed of onions and pour the green sauce over the tuna and onions. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground pepper.
