Beef and pork goulash

    Goulash is a great and easy dish that tastes even better the next day and even two days later. Serve with noodles or potatoes.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 5 tablespoons oil
    • 500g stewing beef, diced
    • 500g stewing pork, diced
    • 4 large onions, chopped
    • 2 (400g) tins peeled tomatoes
    • 2 red peppers, chopped
    • 2 red chilli peppers, minced
    • 4 tablespoons hot paprika powder
    • salt and ground black pepper to taste
    • 1 tablespoon flour or gravy powder (optional)

    1. In a large saucepan heat oil and brown meat from all sides. Pour off any liquid into a bowl and set aside. When the meat is lightly browned add onions and fry until translucent.
    2. Pour the liquid back into the saucepan and add tomatoes. Pour in enough water to cover the meat. Simmer for about 1 hour over low heat, stirring occasionally.
    3. Add peppers, chillies and paprika and cook for another 30 minutes.
    4. If desired stir together flour and a little water in a small bowl till smooth. Slowly pour into the goulash, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer till thickened and serve.
