Simple apple crumble

    A really simple apple crumble which is best served still warm from the oven. I enjoy it with a scoop of vanilla or toffee ice cream.

    Serves: 12 

    • 150g plain flour
    • 90g rolled oats
    • 120g caster sugar
    • 150g soft unsalted butter
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 tablespoon molasses
    • 6 tart apples

    1. Preheat oven to 175 C / Gas 3/4.
    2. In a bowl combine flour, oats, sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and molasses and mix until it resembles bread crumbs.
    3. Place half of the mixture in a ungreased springform pan and firmly press down, to form a base.
    4. Peel apples, core and cut in small pieces. Spread the apples out on the crumble base and sprinkle the rest of the crumble mixture on top.
    5. Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven until crisp and golden on top. Remove from the oven and serve.

    Other ideas:

    You can use the same recipe with blueberries or rhubarb.
