My Nana's stew

    Everyone loves nan's homemade stew.... When I was growing up I loved my nan's stew - it's delicious, one of those dishes you just can't stop eating! (One little tip: if you're low on gravy, add a shepherd's pie mix to the dish.)

    Serves: 4 

    • 500g minced beef
    • 1 diced onion
    • 2 sliced carrots
    • 1 can of peas or sweetcorn, drained
    • 5 good size potatoes, peeled and chopped into chunks
    • gravy granules
    • dumpling mix

    1. Boil 2 pans of water for your potatoes and carrots put them on first as it takes the longest.
    2. Fry your mince and onion until golden.
    3. Add your sweetcorn or peas to mince then add your gravy granules.
    4. Once carrots and potatoes are cooked, drain and add to other ingredients and put in large casserole.
    5. Place in oven at 150 C / Gas 2 for around 2 hours. Halfway through you may need to add some more gravy as can go dry.
    6. As this goes in oven start your dumplings. Follow instructions on the pack, then add to your stew.
    7. After the 2 hours take out the oven. Check potatoes are cooked if not put back in oven for 30 minutes. But if they are cooked then serve :)


    Lovely on a cold winters day. This meal feeds the whole family and only cost around £5-10 depending on what brands you do enjoy!
