Date and walnut pie

    A retro pie with the irresistible combination of dates and walnuts. So easy to make. You can make your own pastry or just use a shop bought pastry case for this recipe.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 sheet ready-made shortcrust pastry
    • 50g (2 oz) soft brown sugar
    • 85g (3 oz) chopped walnuts
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 225g (8 oz) chopped dates
    • lemon zest
    • 300ml (1/2 pt) soured cream

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

    1. Preheat oven to 220 C / Gas 7. Line a 18cm (7 in) flan dish with pastry and trim the edges.
    2. Mix all remaining ingredients together and pour into the flan dish.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Turn down to 170 C / Gas 3 and bake for further 20 minutes.
