    About this recipe: This recipe is very simple: you need 225g or a 1/2 lb each of butter, sugar and flour, 1 egg and a handful of chopped walnuts. Mix and bake! A baking mix could not be easier.

    Serves: 8 

    • 225g (1/2 lb) butter
    • 225g (1/2 lb) soft brown sugar
    • 225g (1/2 lb) plain flour
    • 1 egg
    • chopped walnuts

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4 and grease a square tin.
    2. In a large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and sieved flour, and stir until smooth.
    3. Press into square tin and cover with chopped walnuts.
    4. Bake for 45 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
