About this recipe: This rich and creamy mackerel pate is ready in a snap! Serve with savoury biscuits, crudites or toast.

Serves: 8 

  • 110g (4 oz) cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons white wine
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 55g (2 oz) butter, melted
  • 170g (6 oz) fillets smoked mackerel, flaked
  • 4 tablespoons single cream

  1. Place the cream cheese in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Mix in the wine, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper.
  2. Add the butter with half of the fish and blend until smooth. Add the remaining fish and enough cream to make a thick, smooth mixture. Store in a covered dish in the fridge until required.


Substitute vermouth for the white wine.
