Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, stir for a few minutes to soften. Add minced beef and pork; brown the meat, breaking it down with a spoon while frying.
Add tomatoes, tomato puree, kidney beans, cayenne pepper and minced pickled peppers; bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 1/2 to 3 hours - the longer the better. Stir occasionally. Season with salt, pepper and chilli powder to taste before serving.
