Baked pork chops with apples

    So easy, just let the oven do the work! Pork chops are baked with a simple apple mixture for a touch of sweetness.

    Serves: 4 

    • 4 pork spare rib chops
    • 50g (2 oz) butter
    • 2 medium onions, sliced
    • 2 to 3 dessert apples, peeled and sliced
    • 30g (1 oz) plain flour
    • 300ml (1/2 pt) stock
    • 1 tablespoon chutney
    • 1 teaspoon tomato puree
    • salt and pepper to taste

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Fry the chops in half of the butter over medium high heat until brown on both sides. Arrange in a shallow baking dish.
    3. Fry the onions until pale brown, then add the apple slices. Continue to fry for a few minutes.
    4. Add the rest of the butter to the onion and apple mixture. Stir in the flour, then the stock and stir all together over a medium heat until the liquid has thickened. Add the chutney and tomato puree, pepper and salt.
    5. Spoon the mixture over the chops and bake uncovered for 40 to 50 minutes, till the pork is no longer pink in the centre.

    Wow, we loved this, the only thing I did different was I cooked it in the slow cooker on low for 4hours. Will be a weekly dish in our house. Thank you  -  18 Jun 2014


    I've made this twice now, this time I followed the ingredients list as is, and it was lovely both times. I generally cook on lower heat for longer 😊  -  15 Dec 2017
