Spicy mozzarella meatballs

    Homemade meatballs with a bursting mozzarella cheese centre. You can freeze these after browning, then bake once defrosted.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 500g minced beef
    • 150g breadcrumbs
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 pinch dried chilli flakes
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 200g mozzarella, cut into 1cm cubes
    • plain flour for dusting
    • 700g passata

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Put minced beef, breadcrumbs and egg into a bowl and mix well by hand. Add chilli flakes and salt and mix in.
    2. Take a small amount of the meat mixture and form into a ball around a piece of mozzarella.
    3. Place flour on a plate, roll the meatballs in this to coat them and set aside until all are made.
    4. Fry lightly to brown and then put in an ovendish and cover with passata.
    5. Bake at 190 C / Gas 5 for 30 minutes and serve with either pasta or rice.
