Spaghetti and bacon

    25 min

This spaghetti with a bacon tomato pasta sauce is cheap, easy, quick and kids love it. The recipe feeds four and works out at about 50p per person.

    3 people made this

    Serves: 4

    • 500g spaghetti
    • oil for frying
    • 3 onions, chopped
    • 450g bacon pieces
    • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 500ml passata or large tin of chopped tomatoes
    • salt to taste

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:25min

    1. Cook the spaghetti in salted boiling water, according to packet instructions.
    2. Heat a bit of oil in a large pan and add the onions. Cook until soft. Add the bacon, stirring with a fork to separate the pieces. Once the bacon is cooked, add the garlic and passata. Rinse the passata container with a small amount of water, and add that in. Simmer for 5 minutes.
    3. Toss the spaghetti with the sauce and serve.

Add salt only if required as some bacon pieces can be salty. I usually pay 75p - £1 for mine, value spaghetti 30p, passata 35p and garlic and onions is usually about 30p for both. This works out at about 50p per person. Freezes well.
