    These crunchy gingerbread biscuits make great Christmas tree decorations. Involve your whole family in decorating these fun and tasty treats!

    Makes: 1 dozen biscuits

    • 175g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 50g margarine
    • 100g demerara sugar
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 1/2 egg

    1. Preheat the oven to 190 C / Gas mark 5. Lightly grease two baking trays.
    2. Combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger in bowl; rub in margarine with fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. Beat in sugar, syrup and egg until smooth. Roll mixture out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2cm in thickness. Cut into people shapes and place on prepared baking trays.
    3. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes. Leave to completely cool on a wire rack then decorate any way you like with white icing, sweets or melted chocolate.
