80ml boiling water
80ml golden syrup
1 egg, beaten
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger

Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4. Grease and lightly flour a loaf tin.
Place butter in a mixing bowl; pour boiling water over and stir until melted. Add golden syrup, sugar and egg; stir until sugar is dissolved. Sift flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder and ginger into the bowl; beat until smooth. Pour cake batter into prepared tin.
Bake in the preheated oven until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool in the tin.
